A Guide to trek Lohagad Fort From Mumbai and Pune.

Lohagad Fort Information:

Shivaji Maharaj captured Lohagad Fort in 1648 CE, but he was forced to surrender it to the Mughals in 1665 CE by the Treaty of Purandar. Shivaji recaptured the fort in 1670 CE and used it for keeping his treasury.

Loha means Iron in Hindi, said the fort is also said to be an Iron Fort.

Important Notice of Lohagad Fort Timings:

Its Open from 09 am to 06 pm every day. No night stay allowed.

Best time to Visit Lohagad Fort and Its Grade:

June to February and Grade is Easy.

Base village of Lohagad  Fort:

Lohagadwadi Village – Malavli is the Nearest Railway Station. Distance from Malavli Station to Lohagad Fort is 4 to 5 km Approx.

How To Reach Lohagad Fort from Mumbai By Public transport:

Board any express Train going towards Pune, then alight at Lonavala Station then take a local train towards Pune and alight at Malavli Station from there either you can take a sharing auto to Lohgadwadi VIllage or else Walking.

How To Reach Lohagad Fort from Pune By Public transport:

Board any Local Train going to Lonavala and alight at Malavli Station from there either you can take a sharing auto to Lohgadwadi VIllage or else Walking.

TIPS/HACKS/SUGGESTION: I bet without this you won’t Go for an Outing

How To Reach Lohagad Fort from Mumbai By Private Vehicle:

Take the Express highway going towards Pune and take an exit at Lonavala and head towards Lohagadwadi Village. Can be easily found on Google Maps.

How To Reach Lohagad Fort from Pune By Private Vehicle:

Take the Express highway going towards Mumbai and take an exit at Lonavala and head towards Lohagadwadi Village. Can be easily found on Google Maps.

Or

You can take the old highway towards Lonavala and exit to Malavli and head to Lohagadwadi Village

Food and stay arrangement on the Fort:

Local restaurants are located near the entrance of the Fort.

Stay is not allowed at Night on the fort.

Water availability on the Fort:

Throughout the year and can be easily available from the local stalls.

Things you need to carry :

  1. 2-litre water.
  2. Snacks like pancake, biscuits, ready to eat food.
  3. Glucon D.

  1. You can visit the Bhaje Caves will visiting Lohagad fort.
  2. Shiv Temple
  3. Laxmi Kothi
  4. Vinchu Katta (Scorpion Shape View)
  5. Two Water Storage Tanks
  6. You can also Club visiting Visapur Fort

My personal Experience and Guidance for you to reach:

I visited the fort from Pune by boarding a local train to Lonavala and alighted at Malavli station from here we walked towards the Bhaje caves which come on the way towards Lohagad fort, after visiting the caves we headed to the fort the trail to the fort is pretty easy to identify.

Many people come to visit the Fort, after coming to the fort we explored the fort surrounding and had a Nap on the fort and returned back to the Base. It was a small hike for me.

    If you guys have treks – easy & moderate grade; i would be interested in joining. Most of the commercial treks i ve observed is like a picnic – no serious trekking !! Interested in serious trekking in small groups of 3-5 people
